The palaces were built in different periods that range between the mid-19th century and early-20th century AD by members of a local rich Family.
The founder of the family, Govinda Ram saha by name, was an efflorescent salt trader in the late 18th century AD. But untimately his descendants appeared as the feofees (zamindar) of the British Colonizers in the mid-19th century AD.
Some of them were also credited as the builder of schools, colleges, gardens, temple and charitable dispensaries in their locality as well as in the city of Dhaka. Of them, Nityananda Roy Chowdhury, Vrindavan Chandra, Jagannath Roy, Kanai Lal, Kishori Lal, Yasodha Lal, Hiralal Rai Chowdhury, Iswarchandra Rai Chowdhury and Harendra Kumar roy chowdhury are worth noted. Moreover, the area is strewn over with some relics built by Harannath Roy Chowdhury, Hiralal Roy Chowdhury and Dinendra Roy Chowdhury.
The Palatial Complex is now being preserved as protected cultural properties under the provisions of the Act XIV, 1968 |
