Lawchara National Park is one of those few protected areas in Bangladesh where you can watch Hoolock Gibons.

It is basically a plantation raised during 1920's for timber production by converting the years, the plantation has taken a structure very similar to natural forests and supports wildlife of different kinds. The park is important in regulating water flows, serves as a watershed forming important catchments. Ecologically the semi-evergreen hill forest is a transition between the Indian-subcontinent and the Indo-china Floristic Region.

The hill forests extend from Tekhnaf peninsula north along the Myanmar border to the chittagong Hills and Hill Tracts and the low hills in Sylhet District. The forest is now un0evrn-aged and multi stored. The majority of the smaller under-story trees are evergreen but most of the largest dominant trees are deciduous. The wildlife diversity at the Lawchara National Park consists of 460 species; of Which 167 are plants, 4 amphibians, 6 reptiles, 246 birds, 20 mammas and 17 insects.

Location: Located 60 km south of the Sylhet city in the Komalgonj Upajila of Moulvibazar District.

Wild Life: Slow Loris, Pig-tailed Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Assamese Macaque, Capped Langur, Phayre’s Leaf-monkey, Hoolock Gibbon, Jackal, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear or Himalayan Black Bear, Yellow-throated Marten, Tiger, Leopard, Fishing Cat, Leopard Cat, Wild Pig, Sambar, Barking Deer, Indian Giant Squirrel
Best Time to Visit: 01-November to 31-March
Accommodation: Accommodation facilities are abundant in Srimongal. Facilities include entry-level Tea Town Guest House, mid level Sandya Hotel and high-end Tea Resort. Lodging is also available at BTRI Rest House. good number of restaurants in the city offer different choices of meals.
