Rabindranath Tagore was born at Jorasanko Calcutta on the 7th May 1861. He had no regular school education.
But his education was not neglected from the very boyhood he began to write poems of great merit and charm. u
nder the personal care of his father devendranath Tagore, he gained a deep knowledge in Bangali, Sanskrit and English.
He was a versatile genius. He was a poet, dramatist, a storywriter, a novelist, a critic and an essayist. Some of his best poems are found in the 'Gitanjali' , 'Sonar tari', 'kheya', 'Kalpana' , Balaka' etc. For his 'Gitanjali' he got the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913. His novels and plays are of highest order. His songs are now very popular. He was a great educationist too.
He had his own ideas as to how to educate the children for their all round development. He established a school at Shantiniketan and Afterwards founded the University of Viswa Bharati. He was a great poet as wel as a great thinker of International reputation. And he may justifiably rewarded as the poet of all poets.
