First ever invented oil field of Bangladesh lies at Haripur, sylhet. Around 24 Km. east, just off the highway to sylhet jaflong is the haripur oil field. Spreaded over 10 km. length and 5 km. breadth, Horipure oil field is supposed to be 50000 feet deep. Nearby it , situated an abandoned gas field is still a sight, people come to see the burning of the gases.
